We are experiencing inconsistent behavior of the email notification mechanism.  Sometimes we are receiving the error notification as expected, sometimes not.

I have two examples from two different packages:

Package ID 137812 - Also raised in a separate ticket "BigCommerce replication job behavior," This job has failed at the PACKAGE level several times over the past few days (see failed Run IDs and dates below) - but I have not received any error notification emails at ll:

Run Id 65212078
Date: Aug 19, 2021 9:23:43 AM

Run Id 65630770
Date Aug 24, 2021 9:21:12 AM

Run Id 65734569
Date Aug 25, 2021 2:25:56 PM

Package ID 138211 - This job has also experienced several failures, at both the Package and Task level. I received one TASK-level error notification email for Run Id 65727069 @ Date: 8/25/2021 7:16:17 PM UTC, and I don't expect to receive another TASK-level email until 24 hrs from that date.  But I would expect to have received an error notification for the original PACKAGE-level error:

Run Id 65676672
Date Aug 24, 2021 10:01:22 PM.

So it would seem that there may be some problem for PACKAGE-level error notification emails?

Please advise.

Hello Joseph,

By default in order not to spam users with a large number of notifications, Skyvia sends an email notification once per hour. Even if several packages fail within an hour, Skyvia will send a notification only for the first one.

Besides that if a package is scheduled to run more often than once per day and fails multiple times, Skyvia will send only up to one notification per day for a package. We will consider your expectations and we will definitely inform you if the notification system will be changed.

My understanding is that you send only one error email notification per day PER PACKAGE.  So if two DIFFERENT packages fail within the same day, I should receive an email for BOTH errors so that I can be sure to investigate each one.

But it sounds like you are saying that you send only one error email per day REGARDLESS of how many packages fail?  So multiple packages could fail within the same day and I would only receive an email for the first error, and it is up to me to double-check the rest to ensure that they succeeded?  Given the number of error emails, and the potential impact of a data replication failure, I suggest that limiting error emails to one per day per package would be a better compromise between too many notifications and too few.  But now that I understand the current limit rules, we will simply need to double check all our packages when we get an email.

Dear Joseph,

If two different packages fail during the same hour, then you get one notification related to the first failed package.

But if the separate packages fail for example, during one day, you get separate notifications about

For example, let’s imagine you have package A failed and package B failed in 10 minutes. You receive the notification about package A only. In 1 hour both packages fail again and then you get the notification about package B.

We have addressed your suggestion to Skyvia Product Manager.

We will inform you when the notification system will be updated.

Best regards,

Olena
